Saving Time at the Office

Just because you have to work for a living does not mean you should have to live at work. Whether you want to create a presentation for your next office meeting or you need to modify a document that was sent to you by a co-worker, there are plenty of little things you can do to help make your day much more efficient afterwards.

Create Keyboard Shortcuts
Anybody who used to use a program that used keyboard shortcuts and no longer has the ability may miss this greatly after converting to a new system. For example, there are plenty of people who are used to pressing control-F7 in order to get a new footnote when using the Word program, but it can be frustrating to have to go through the long procedure to do the same in Pages or Word, since both programs require opening a separate menu.

Fortunately, it is possible to recreate your old shortcuts by using a program designed to develop macros. Here, you can record your macro for your choice of program, and then you can assign a shortcut. In other words, for the aforementioned example, a few minutes of your time can allow you to apply control-F7 to add a new footnote within Pages and Word.

Easily Edit PDFs
If a coworker sends over a portable document format to sign, it can be a hassle printing out the document just to sign it and then scan back into the computer just to send it back all over again. Why go through the hassle when you can simply get a PDF editor to perform the same task while on the computer?

Some features to be on the lookout for when picking a PDF editor, whether commercial or open source, include splitting and merging abilities as well as the ability to modify any and all parts of the PDF document.
